What are the Speaker Specs? What warranty do the Motorcycle Tunes Speakers have? What is the return policy / money back guarantee on the the Motorcycle Tunes Speakers? What is the sound quality of Motorcycle Tunes Speakers? Our speakers yield clear, crisp, loud sounds even at speeds above 80mph. Our top of the line waterproof speakers give good bass response. Our Amplified Speakers, use a 500 Watt Amplifier, paired with top of the line 4" waterproof speakers. Return to Top How do the Motorcycle Tunes Speakers sound at highway speeds? Our speakers are designed for use at highway speeds, on bikes with loud pipes, and without windshields. Customers contact us all time time, stating they can clearly hear the speakers at speeds above 80mph, or that they have very loud pipes and are very happy with the quality and performance of our speakers. We use top of the line speakers, but keep in mind the higher the volume, the great the distortion level. These are great speakers, but you need to use prospective, they will not sound like your home audio system, or care audio system, because you are outside, wind and ambient noise will effect the sound quality. Return to Top What Audio Device can I use with Motorcycle Tunes Speakers? We make two different type of speakers, Amplified and UnAmplified Speakers. Amplified Speakers - Designed to be used with any portable audio device o iPod, iPhone, and MP3 Player o Walkman o Portable CD Player o Satellite Radios (an in-line volume control is required when using satellite radios, because most don't have a built in volume control) o Any Device with a 3.5mm Headphone Jack or Audio Output If your device has the newer 2.5mm mini headphone jack, then you can purchase an adapter cable through our website, or at RadioShack or Walmart. UnAmplified Speakers - Designed for use with a car stereo type setup. With Motorcycle Tunes Amplified Speakers — you can use virtually any personal radio, or CD, cassette or MP3 player equipped with a standard 3.5mm mini-plug headphone jack. As noted above, for the relatively few devices manufactured with the newer 2.5mm stereo jacks, adapters are available from electronics stores. Low-end FM Radios, or other products with Floating Ground amplifiers, may not work optimally with Motorcycle Tunes Speakers, unless used with a Ground Loop Isolator. Return to Top How loud will the speakers be when used with a MP3 Player? A typical MP3 Players outputs 1-3 watts, our high gain amplifier, takes that and boost the output to 500 watts, so the audio can be heard at highway speeds. Higher dollar MP3 players will sound better, because they output about twice the voltage of cheaper MP3 Players. Our amplifier combined with top of the line speakers, will make any audio device sound good, but higher dollar units will sound better than cheaper units. If you don't have a MP3 Player yet, go with a good name grand, Samsung, Apple, Sony, ect. Return to Top Can Motorcycle Tunes Speakers be used with a car stereo setup? Motorcycle Tunes Un-Amplified Speakers will work with any Car Stereo (common ground, or bridged). Return to Top What size are the speakers? Our Motorcycle Tunes Speakers are installed in factory quality chrome metal housings. MT-4AS speakers are about 5" in diameter, and 4" deep MT-5AS speakers are about 6" in diameter, and 4" deep Return to Top Do the Amplified and UnAmplified models use the same Speakers inside? Yes, they use the same speakers inside the housing, and the only difference is that Amplified Speakers combined with extra items. Both models give clear, crisp loud sound. Return to Top How does the amplifier work, and how is it installed? Motorcycle Tunes amplifier is external. The reason we use an external amplifier is because we cannot make the amplifier both small enough and powerful enough to install it in the housing. Our external amplifier is very reliable and efficient, but one of the best things is the amplifier is the most valuable part of our system outside of the speakers, and it can be replaced easily if it ever needs to be. Return to Top Do I need to drill holes in my handlebars? No, the included mounting hardware does not require any holes to be drilled. Mounting hardware is available on our accessories page. Return to Top My bike has a windshield, will Motorcycle Tunes Speakers still mount on the handlebars? Alot of Motorcycle Tunes customers mount the speakers on the handlebars, just inside of the windshield. The bottom mounting bolt and the clamps, allow versatile mounting locations. Customers even mount the speakers on the crashbars, forks, and spotlight bars. The bottom mounting bolt is a 3/8" bolt, we even have alot of customers who don't use the clamps at all, and fabricate their own mounting solutions Return to Top Where do I mount my Portable Audio Device on my bike? Your personal audio device can be mounted or stored almost anywhere that is within reach. We have a nice selection of Device Mounts, or you can also visit www.CycleGadgets.com to view several other custom mounts. We also carry several bags, that can easily accommodate almost any audio device. Return to Top Where do I put my car stereo? UnAmplified Speakers are designed for use with Car Stereo Type setups Car Stereo Type Radios can be installed in a saddle bar, travel trunk, or even in the fairing. DIN is the standard size of my aftermarket stereos, 1.5Din or Double DIN is much larger, and will not fit in the fairing or dash. We carry a nice selection of car stereos. Click here to see a nice installation example Return to Top Can Motorcycle Tunes Speakers be connected to the battery? You can either wire our speakers a switch and fused 12-volt power source on your bike. You can wire them directly to the battery, but you would want to put a toggle switch in there, so you could turn them off, but remember that if you forget to turn them off it will drain your battery. Most customers tie into the headlight wire, or to the fuse box, so that it turns on/off with the key. If you don't know where or how to install the system, you may want to consult a friend or take your bike and the speaker system to a local motorcycle dealer or car audio store and they should be able to do the installation for you. Return to Top Can two sets of Motorcycle Tunes Speakers be installed on my bike? Yes. There are several ways of doing this. Amplified Speakers - Amplified Speakers draw 5 amps from your bike. o Purchase 1 set of amplified speakers, and 1 set of UnAmplified Speakers. Use the one amplifier to power all four speakers o Purchase 1 sets of Amplified Speakers, and one of our RCA splitters. You will also need to purchase (2) of Product 255-025 here Return to Top Can I charge my Personal Audio Device off my bike, or the USB Charger? Yes. You will want to also purchase a Ground Loop Isolator , this will eliminate any noise (ground loops) between the amplifier and your device. Return to Top Will I need a Noise Filter to remove interference from the engine? Most Motorcycle Tunes speakers ship with a noise filter. The noise filter, removes distortion that is caused from engine interference. If you are using a car stereo type setup, then you will not need a noise filer, because the car stereo usually already has one built into the stereo. Return to Top Noise Filter installed, but I still hear a humming noise and lower volume from the speakers, what now? A weak or bad ground can cause a humming noise. You will need to check ground on the amplifier, and if the problem continues, you may need to move the ground to a different point on the bike. Take a wire and jump the negative battery terminal on the bike to the ground on the amplifier. If you get louder volume in doing so, then you will need to get a better ground for the system. 99% of all noise enters through the ground, so if you have noise, always start with the ground, try moving it around on the bike. Return to Top Are the Speakers Waterproof? Motorcycle Tunes speakers are not waterproof, but they are water-resistant. They are designed for outside use, on bikes, and can be used in the rain. Motorcycle Tunes has NEVER had a case of any water related malfunction. Return to Top What are the Speaker Specs?
